About Me

Art in Wood
I began My woodturning journey in 1989 when I attended a two day course at Craft Supplies in Millers Dale in Derbyshire. This kindled a passion for the craft but it wasn't until 1997 that I was able to buy a lathe and set up a basic workshop for myself.
From the start I made bowls and platters from fallen timber collected in the forests around Ivinghoe in Bedfordshire where I lived, using the defects and natural fissures in the wood to make unique pieces to sell. This was also the start of attending Craft Fairs and demonstrating at the nearby farm museum in Pitstone which furthered my passion for the craft.
After many years of hobby turning and working as a plumber, in 2013 I was able to make the transition to woodturning as a full time profession. I set up The Mulberry Tree Woodturnery, which then became Andy Fortune Art in Wood, with the help and support of my Wife Nikki.
Through many years of experimentation and learning new woodturning techniques along the way I have now found a new passion with my latest work - beautiful statement vases.

Along with my own woodturning practice, I also teach woodturning - from the basics to more enhanced courses to help participants develop their skills and knowledge.
